Gunmen have kidnapped the wife of a pastor and a female church member in Agyaragu, Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
The victims, Mrs. Patience Nasamu, wife of Pastor Samuel Nasamu of Word of God Church, and a church member were seized on Sunday night while at the pastor’s residence.
Pastor Nasamu said the attackers struck around 8:15pm while he was away praying for a sick church member. His wife, a breastfeeding mother, and the visitor were at home with her three-month-old baby when the gunmen stormed the house.
According to him, the abductors shot sporadically into the air after failing to break into the building. They later forced the women out, leaving the infant behind.
The pastor disclosed that his wife had earlier placed a frantic call to him, during which she was only heard praying before communication was cut off.
Residents said the kidnappers have demanded ₦50 million ransom for the release of the victims.
Police authorities confirmed the incident and said operatives had been deployed to track down the gunmen and rescue the women.
The abduction has heightened tension in the community, where locals are calling on government to tackle rising cases of banditry and kidnappings in the state.
